There are many aspects to consider before launching a website. They should be created after much thought and careful planning. All too often we see badly designed sites, that just have little or no visual appeal to site visitors.

A visitor does not become a customer if they are just a passer-by!

It really is very similar to shopping down Main Street or in the mall. Businesses have to display something in the shop window (home page) to attract people. Once shoppers are looking in the window, they have to see something (home page content) that makes them want to look inside. Once inside, shoppers have to find what they are looking for easily (easy navigation) or they will leave (go to another website).

There is not much time to achieve all that with a website home page, but it is possible. You should be able to count on 15-20 seconds of a site visitor’s attention, so what do you do?

The website should:

  • load the home page quickly.
  • grab the visitor’s attention.
  • demonstrate easy navigation.

Once inside, the website should:

  • continue to be easy to navigate.
  • continue to be interesting.
  • have the information that visitors want.

Some pitfalls to avoid:

  • Using personal ISP e-mail addresses for a business, lacks professionalism. It also sends the wrong message to potential clients. Why have your business look like a hobby by using a Hotmail or Yahoo e-mail address. It is possible to have your own website domain with hundreds of e-mail accounts for well under $100 a year.
  • Avoid using flashing buttons and animated images. They just distract people from focusing on the real content matter on the page.
  • Do not use hit counters. They convey very little to visitors, as they can be coded to start at any number you choose.

Classic Insight will take all this and more into consideration when developing your website.

Many people have asked us, “How do I start a website?  What do I need to do?”

In fact, the most common factor when a business does not have a website, is the unknown. People do not know what to do, how to get started, or where to go for help. The second factor is that people think it has to cost thousands of dollars. If this sounds familiar, do not worry - help is at hand.

There is of course a lot more to website design than this, but here a brief and very basic list, which we would be pleased to discuss with you:

  • You need to think of a name for your website, which is not already being used by someone else. (This is called the domain name.)
  • You need a place to store the information (a hosting company.) We primarily use GoDaddy.com Hosting Plans, because they offer more features, are very reasonably priced and their customer service is excellent. For UK websites we use UK Web Hosting.
  • You need someone to create the website code. (A company like Classic Insight, for example.)
  • Then you need that code sent to the hosting company (Again, we would like you to consider Classic Insight.)

Now of course, a website could cost you thousands of dollars, but that really depends on how much information you intend having and the complexity of the website. The average small business website can cost anywhere from $500 to $5,000. If it’s real simple with only a handful of pages, it may only cost $350 to $500.

Our honest advice is to contact us to discuss your ideas and project requirements.
Only then will you have an idea of the estimated cost.
